Do you have MS ActiveDirectory? MS SQL Server uses name based dynamic
ports registered in the ldap portion of ADS ( i have not see SRV
records in DNS for MSSQL server db names, so it has got to be ldap).
Dynamic means the actual port number changes frequently. The numeric
port number can be changed in the middle of the day and the client app
may not skip a beat. Clients find the numeric port number to use by
looking up the name of the database in LDAP.

I would also look into whether there are extra dns/winbind entries for
your server on your lan.

If using ADS, run repadmin /syncall and repadmin /test:* to make sure
there is syncing between ADS servers.

The default is 1433 and 1434. You may want to configure MSSQL to not
be dynamic and use these static ports.
