[olug] Why I no longer care about Disney.

Censorship:
I find it unacceptable that the movie industry should so blatantly go about
trying to censor the artistic creations of computer programmers while being
so anti-censorship themselves. A piece of computer source code that depicts
how to copy a DVD movie you legitimately purchased is an evil thing to be put
down while a piece of celluloid demonstrating drug use, terrorism, murder
sprees, how to defeat a murder rap, and other crimes is a celebrated artistic
work protected by our rights to freedom of expression.

Doesn't work:
The software industry has spent the last 20 years looking at copy protection
and they have come to the conclusion that it does not work. Why should the
movie industry expect the software industry to suddenly make it work just
because it is legally mandated?

I don't buy it:
I have cut back my movie watching extremely just because of their actions in
these matters. I used to purchase a DVD weekly but I have't purchased one in
months. I rarely go to movies purely because that money goes to support the
same people.

Stolen from the public and then sold back for a profit:
These people have been manipulating congress for most of this century,
hijacking material that would go into the public domain for their own private
gain. 28 years used to be the maximum copyright protection. Certainly long
enough to make incredible sums of money from a project. Star Wars: A New
Hope isn't even 28 years old yet.

(In case you can't tell this is a topic I follow closely)
