[olug] kernel compile help

I've recompiled my kernel and when I boot using the new kernel I get
unresolved symbol messages for a lot of my modules when I run the
command "depmod -a".  However when I run the command "depmod -a -F
/boot/System.map 2.2.18" I get no errors.

Any ideas? Modprobe modulename also reports unresolved symbols.
