[olug] apt-get performance issue

I believe the Mint install uses a mixture of repositories (Debian, Ubuntu,
others), whereas Ubuntu will use just the Ubuntu ones.

A *long* time ago I remember seeing a program that queried the servers in
the repository list and attempted to find the "best ones" based on how they
responded....

If it's at work, does it make sense to setup a local repository?
