Ting will not use Verizon towers for data, just for voice; I know this from
personal experience. And while there's no lock in per set, the effective
lock in is that you have to plunk down a good chunk is change for the
phone. I suspect that Ting subsidizes the phone a bit, though. I paid less
for the phone(HTC One) through Ting than if I'd bought it outright. But you
can then take this phone to another carrier.
