http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Sound_Troubleshooting. <= No sound from mythtv,
but mplayer can play sound
Seen on Fedora 12 to 13 + MythTV 0.22 to 0.23, with analog sound: Fixed by
setting mixer control to Master and entering ALSA:front as audio device.
ALSA:front was not in the list of audio devices so it had to be entered
manually with the onscreen keyboard. Mixer control is PCM by default.
ALSA device

To choose the correct ALSA device when multiple devices are present, follow
these steps:
Verify MythTV is able to use ALSA.
Find the list of ALSA device names:
aplay -L
Prepend "ALSA:" to the name of the device, eg "ALSA:default:CARD=nForce2"
Set it via the GUI or in the "settings" table for the "AudioDevice" and
"AudioOutputDevice" values.

Hope some of this info helps. Let me know if you got it fixed and how.

Subject: [olug] sound?
It's been so long since I've had to fix a sound issue that I've
forgotten how. Could anyone offer suggestions or tell me what I forgot
to provide? I'm stumped; the fact that system-config-soundcard is
working along w/ MythTV complicates it to the point that Google hasn't
been helpful in the first 15 minutes of searching....

Thanks.

noel

running CentOS 5.9 32-bit

no sound from aplay /usr/share/sounds/* attempts
no sound from vlc *.mp3 attempts
no sound or sound device from any flash videos (ahhh!! the real
problem...., or at least the reason for attempting to fix)

system-config-soundcard detects, plays test sound.
mythfrontend plays sound from recordings, liveTV

aplay -l gives:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH5 -
IEC958]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

The old complaint that mass culture is designed for eleven-year-olds
is of course a shameful canard. The key age has traditionally been
more like fourteen.
