Were you using NIC teaming or just 2 separate cards?  I have seen an issue with this in relation to NIC teaming.

Ok...short story.  Server is Suse.

Had 2 nics in a server.  Manually configured one.  Later went back and had the "other" one removed.  Wrong one removed, SO went to put the IP into the card that had NOT been configured...no go, says duplicate IP.  Can't find where the system is maintaining the old card's info...looked in /etc/sysconfig/network without finding info on old card.

Anyone know where else to look in the system??
