[olug] Open Source/Linux - Directory Services

We are running eDir now and have had issues.  We have been requested to look at the "dark side" as well as other alternatives.  I need to know what those other alternatives are and how they work.  If I can avoid AD and the costs/hardware asc. with it, I want to.  I just don't know what is available in the Open Source area.
