I have had this issue on my laptop. I have always been able to just log out,
then log back in. It only happened a handful of times when i logged in as
soon as the screen came up. Waiting a few seconds to log in made the issue
go away for me.  Hope this helps.

I turned on my computer this morning and I noticed that the network manager
applet on top by the clock was missing. I tried bunch of things and nothing.
I am running ubuntu 10.04. Any ideas.
