That might be the case if you were running it on the root ( :0 ) display, but you can run it independently I believe.  Tunneling over SSH of course. 

Otherwise, No Machine?  I haven't heard much about it recently, but there was quite a buzz a few years ago.

Try www.rdesktop.org.  Great for connecting to windows terninal
services abd I here it works with xrdp
