I've never used it, but MDS should work fine with other distributions -
most *NIX systems use the RFC2307 LDAP schema. It's all open-source
(http://mds.mandriva.org/wiki/Download) but I suspect it would take
quite a bit of work to make to work on anything but Mandriva Corporate
Server.

They do offer a pre-made VMware image for demoing it.

If MDS doesn't use the standard RFC2307 schema, then it is deeply flawed
and needs to be avoided like the plague.
