yes!

a modified xbox running xbox media center.
it's the future of video entertainment. plays every media file i throw at
it, even with minimal updates.

you can put ANY size of IDE hard drive in it, you can run homebrew software
(including python!), and it runs an ftp server, http server, and as well as
a client side for many things (samba, iTunes, etc.). i even browse the web
and check my e-mail on it (using mostly python!).
it also still plays xbox games as well as emulates most other systems very
well. i even have a DOS emulator that i run the old ultima games on.

it's the coolest thing i've ever seen, and i've been a nerd since birth.
since i got my wireless controllers, i haven't even touched my TV remote.
i haven't seen a tv commercial in years because i watch shows ad-free on the
xbox.
i tried to promote it on this list once and i had not one response to my
thread.
very disappointing......

let me know if you are interested.
i can sell you one, or walk you through the process.
i'll even help you put it together in my lab if you buy the parts.
i've got plenty.

i gotta say, the lack of response to my original thread has been the
greatest let down i've ever had from linux community.

but go ahead and spend 1000 bucks for your MythTV setup.

if you've already got the xbox, you've got half of the expense covered.
if you don't have an xbox, i've got a shipment of 10 on the way.

which brings me to my next thread...
