[olug] Printing problems under Suse

A friend of mine had a similar problem with a Canon series with Mandrake.
He had to install some extra CUPS package. Use YaST and install new
software. Search for CUPS and install EVERYTHING you find. If that doesn't
work, then I'm as lost as you.

Subject: [olug] Printing problems under Suse

Hi all,

I'm getting garbage from my Epson Stylus Photo 82o printer that is
connected to my Suse 9.3 box w/ CUPS via my parallel port. I started to
print a page from OpenOffice 2.0 beta (this process has worked before)
and since then I've gotten nothing but an unrelenting stream of garbage
characters no matter what I try. I've disconnected the printer and
turned it on to flush its memory, I've canceled and killed print jobs.
I've used lpstat to try and identify the problem job -- nothing shows
up.

I know the printer works from my laptop so that possibility is
eliminated.

When I do get the stream stopped the minute I put a test job in the
stream it returns to printing garbage characters. Can anyone point me to
a resource that will troubleshoot whether it's a hardware or software
problem? I've been working on this all afternoon and it's driving me
nuts!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! (I will kiss the feet of those
who attempt to help -- metaphorically speaking!!)

Thanks for any help!!
