I have had double success at resizing a WinXP NTFS Partion, and getting
Linux installed. This was back when I was messing around with SuSE
Linux 9.2. The first time around, I did a partion, without defragging,
or scan-disking, and surprisingly retained all of my Data. (Stupid
Mario Stupid!) I wouldn't suggest that though. I'd suggest running
Defrag a good 3 or 4 times, since in most cases, defrag doesn't move all
data around like it's suppose to. The actual steps I would recomend, is
Turn off Swap in Windows XP FIRST, then reboot your computer, run defrag
x 3, run scan disk, then boot into your Favoriate Linux Distro, and
resize your partion. I would recomend SuSE, or Fedora Core, as these
two have had the most luck with getting partion resizing working.
(Though, I haven't tried many other Distros) Just my successful
experince with Re-sizing a NTFS Partion.
