I personally feel that open source development is an extremely valuable
resource. You can still have your proprietary company software that
makes you unique, but allowing a few hundred million people to review
your code and suggest improvements is one hell of a development cycle!
I feel that open source is the only reason Linux is able to overshadow
Windows like it does. No matter how many billions of dollars Microsoft
has, it can't compare to a global effort. Granted, we still need to get
companies to start developing on Linux like they do on Windows, but I
foresee a shift happening within the next five years toward a more Linux
driven economy.
