I'll second that in a heartbeat!

Sure, for home and small office environments (i.e. 10 or less
people/devices) then an inexpensive un-managed switch is perfect.

Once you've used a managed switch and you can setup VLANs, enable/disable
ports, and watch for port errors you'll wonder how you got along without
the features.

If the Cisco list prices are too steep, you can always check on auction
sites and "refurbishers".  Of course, Cisco is always going to be a bit
steeper -- you might want to look into a 3Com or NetGear managed hub.
I've used 3Com in the past and they make fine equipment (I'm still a Cisco
guy though).
