[olug] newest side-project: cookie-cantenna

I'd like to get some more info on "tuning".  I work with the real waveguides alot, made from solid copper with silver solder on joints. I know that the geometry of the guide plays a role of how well the wave plays inside.  
Is there any info on what areas and materials work best for certain ranges?
Has anyone tried to take a can to one of those pimping auto acc. shops and get the inside gold plated??  lol I dunno if its worth it but it would be cool.
