Ever looked at m0n0wall (http://m0n0.ch/wall/)? It is a very slick
little
app written in PHP designed to be installed on embedded/small systems.
It
can do a ton of things, and the feature list includes:
 * WAP support
 * captive portal
 * stateful packet filter
 * NAT
 * PPTP
 * static routes
 * Caching DNS and DynDNS client
 * Web-based upgrades ("firmware" upgrade)
 * Wake on LAN client
 * Make tea, earl grey, hot.

It is written in PHP and works great on Soekris net48xxs, such as the
net4826 (http://www.soekris.com/net4826.htm).
