[olug] Penguin Lunch

I basically do Video Production, webdesign and
administration, project management, and basic office
type functions -- using Windows XP Home and Studio
Pinnacle 8 for video editing...would love to move to
a Linux desktop and apps besides OpenOffice IF I could
seamlessly do it without a lot of troubleshooting time
and hassle.

I dabble a little into database design and I also
assist other staff with computer dilemmas--
from live video streaming a video clip function
questions to Email, and even the staff that try to
open everything on MS Word or can't remember how to
get that line to appear under the text like it did
yesterday.

Charles Bird, aka Birdman, does video engineering work
and handles networking and some other computer related
issues when possible.

Everything is still pretty much Windows based BUT
Charles and I are trying to change that.

I've gotten a couple people using OpenOffice,
Thunderbird and Firefox all on Windows.

I'd love to see someone with a MythTV setup come out
and show us how it could help us move from SVHS tapes
to recording/playback via hard drives and other linux
functionality. This could include a way to move
programming logs and schedules to a paperless format.
(DB and/or spreadsheet)

Boss hates change -- hence we're moving slow BUT he
loves saving money.
