[olug] ASUS and Linux

The issues in the article are more with the front-line tech support people
that you have to get past at most large companies to get anything done.
getting angry with them doesn't accomplish anything. You have to work
through them and build contacts past them.

The issue is more with the buggy VPD and the reseller. If a component has
is buggy it is the same whether it's Linux or windows. The reseller should
have acknowledged that and gone forward with either rejecting the board or
accepting the work-around.

I have six machines with Asus motherboards that are solid from a hardware
standpoint, continually run and not one machine is running Windows.
Including the new MythTV box hooked up to the TV at the store. I prefer
the reliability/performance/features of the Asus products.

The hold times of 20 minutes are small in comparison to
D-Link/Qwest/Others. It's a big-company syndrome.

The facts are that technically the products are good, and the reseller
should research compatibility if they are putting together machines that
are running Linux or any version of windows.

As a side note, I have put together fully-functional and stable Linux
Gaming machines based on the board that they mention........ And never had
to call Asus......
