The following statement is entirely fictional. Please do not try this
at home.

We always fire up both servers and run around the server cage 5 times
and see which one boots up first, then subtract the time in seconds
between the faster one and the slower one, and divide that into the
number of heartbeats you have in 15 seconds. It won't give you a
number
that means anything but 2 things are certain: 1.) The number will
change with your age, and 2.) you will probably fall down somewhere
along the way, and your boss doesn't want worker's comp claims, so
tell
him to buck up and shell out the dough for the new stuff.

I tried Sisoft's Sandra software. Awful for processor tests. Ok for
system stuff. Don't know of anything else I like much either.

to make a meaningful comparison of the processing power of hte SPARC
chips in this 5 year old server vs today's Intel/AMD/PPC chips. Has
anyone found a benchmark that they would consider accurate for this
type
of comparison?
