Just thought one of the orgs behind this, freegeek.org, was a neat idea.
Recycle/renew computers and give them away to people who volunteer their
time, in bridiging the 'digital divide' on a local scale.

I love their logo, "Helping the needy get nerdy since the beginning of the
3rd millenium"!

What can the rest of us learn from Portland, OR?

<quote>
THE REBEL ALLIANCE

An unlikely army of hacker hippies, geek visionaries, idealistic
teachers and corporate giants is making Portland ground zero of a
digital revolution.
  ...
Timothy Witham of OSDL puts it another way: "The way open source works
and the way Portland thinks just seem to go together."
