So far, good information. I appreciate EVERYONE'S replies so far. I am
going to forward all of your replies to this person and see if there is
something I can help him do or if he is going to wing it himself. I,
personally, know how to turn on and shutdown a Sun box but past that I
am winging it. 8) Thanx again!!

You can get a Sun Ultra 5 pretty cheap anysystems.com has refurbs
for
about $400

Solaris Open Windows 3.6 is not the OS running but the Xwindows
software,
however if its truly 3.6 then the SunOS is 5.6 (Solaris 2.6)

Check though and make sure its not 3.6.1 or 3.6.2 if it is the OS
could be
different:

Open Windows 3.6 = Solaris 2.6(SunOS 5.6)
Open Windows 3.6.1 = Solaris 7(SunOS 5.7)
Open Windows 3.6.2 = Solaris 8(SunOS 5.8)

If all possible have them just buy him another system and let them keep
the
current one. (Easiest Solution)

If he wants a challenge or is bored then backup the existing data
using
whatever means, then restore it to a drive in the new system they
purchase,
if they want to keep it on SunOS.

Got this from a friend. His friend sold his tire business and the new
owners are trying to keep his data/system. I don't know if the DB is
SQL
but any ideas to help him out would be GREATLY appreciated! Can you
run
ghost on a Solaris box? Is there an alternative to ghost in the Unix
world?
Has anyone heard of this DB system and has ideas for exporting the
data?? I
am going to check some other avenues as well...

Thanx for any ideas!!

The Sun workstation the programs and data are on is identified as a
sunw.ultra -5.10, sparc sun4u. The OS says Solaris Open Windows 3.6.
The program on the system that has all the financial data and inventory
and
customer databases is ASA Tire Systems version 4.9.0 for Solaris and
is
dated 06/09/00. What I am hoping to do is either export the customer
and
tire database information to a Windows based computer so that the new
owners
will have their copy of the data and be willing to release the old
Solaris
workstation and the programs and data on it. A second option I was
considering was copying all the contents of the drive to another
hard-drive
and then either looking for a used Solaris system somewhere are finding
some
other system that would be able to retrieve the data.
