Thanks Mike.  I found the devel package and when I went to install it it
said it needed glib-devel and XFree86-devel so got them and am installing
all (seems to be taking a long time).  I have some errands to run so will
let it run and see where I end up.  Thanks again.

Did you install GTK from source or from an rpm?  If from an rpm, you need
to also install the development package (probably called something like
'gtk-devel-<version>.rpm'.  You need that to compile programs that use
GTK.
