Thanks that is what I needed instead of searching for the how to's and
adding each to favorites EVERY time.

See the "Securing and Optimizing Red Hat Linux" online book, the older
version and a newer one is available here.  I've found it very useful (and
I don't run redhat).

Also, just random good howtos / tutorials seem to be the best way to
learn, along with tldp.org, I have some links on my website (sorry, no
direct URL yet)

go to http://news.brianwiese.net, select "*nix" from the drop down, see
the lists of references.  newbiedoc.sf.net is a new favorite of mine for
debian related stuff.
