Have you written a ~/.cdrdao config file?

Should be this for your CD-RW.
write_device: "1,0,0"
write_driver: "generic-mmc"

Or maybe try this.
write_device: "1,0,0"
write_driver: "generic-mmc-raw"

Try these command w/an audio CD in your drive.
cdrdao read-toc --driver generic-mmc audiocd.toc

cdrdao read-toc --driver generic-mmc-raw audiocd.toc

Any promising output?

Have you tried writing a x.toc file?
Basic format is like this:
CD_DA
TRACK AUDIO
FILE "song1.wav" 0 5:48:20

TRACK AUDIO
FILE "song2.wav" 5:48:20 5:10:55

And to do a quick test of your x.toc file.
cdrdao show-toc x.toc
