RH7.2 with a serial console using grub for a boot loader, the relevant
grub.conf lines are:

serial --unit=0 --speed=9600 --word=8 --parity=no --stop=1
terminal --timeout=10 serial console

 From /etc/inittab
s0:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty ttyS0 CON9600
