But writing to it in linux, and reading from then on in Linux works as far
as I know.

As I recall, writing to an NTFS partition using Linux is incomplete and
very experimental.  Writing to it using the Linux driver will leave the
drive in an unacceptable state, and if you boot into Windows,
chkdsk/scandisk will run and harf on it.  There's a fairly high
probability of losing the contents of the partition by doing it,
depending on how much writing you did from Linux.

The general rule of thumb is that you can read from NTFS well enough,
but writing to it is dangerous.
