Off the topic of the thread, maybe, but I'd say this is very much on
topic on this list, no?

I can't say enough about the dynamic DNS service provided by
http://www.dyndns.org.  You have to "pay" for the service in order to
use a registered domain name, but it's a low one time donation (or at
least it was one I signed up... I don't know if they've changed the
pricing structure for newer users).  I've never had a single problem
with the service, and have been using it for over a year.  I had a
question about whether or not they could provide a mail service to work
around Cox's port blocking, and though the question was sent to an
e-mail address, I received a curteous and complete response within 5
minutes!  The support representative even carried on an e-mail
conversation with me for a short while discussing whether or not they
could/would provide this service in the future and what alternate
solutions they might suggest.  So the human tech support is more than
top notch in my opinion.  I've honestly never gotten better support from
even commercial service providers.

The only things I dislike (and they aren't really problems with
www.dyndns.org) are that "web hops" aren't transparent and only work for
the top-level URL (for instance, I've got a web hop for
http://www.kempf-ville.com, which still just has the apache page :(, but
you can't specify http://www.kempf-ville.com/~wekempf/cygwin/ to get to
the documentation I posted, as one would hope you could), and there's
not (currently) a solution for Cox's blocking of e-mail ports.
