Hey everyone, I got on my soapbox this morning after reading this
article from the computerworld website and some internal communications
that I have heard lately.  Did I fly off the handle with my statements
or did I have an inspirational moment and say something meaningful? 
Just thought that I would ask...Thanx for any input!

Pretty good article.  I thought that you would enjoy it.

I especially like #2.  Right now, it appears to me that this District
teaches our kids how to "click these 3 buttons to make things happen in
a Microsoft system", not how to accomplish a task per say.  Put them in
front of another application/OS and they are lost!  So regardless what
"business' " use for their OS/Office Productivity software, our kids
should know HOW to accomplish a task regardless of what OS/program is
used in these said business'.  Business right now is paying Microsoft
for their software because it is EASIER than moving to "something else",
regardless of the cost savings in the long-term.  Wouldn't our kids be
better prepared to meet the challenge of a company's needs if they knew
how to accomplish a task using a Microsoft product, an Apple product, a
Linux product, or whatever is coming along later?  They know this
because they were taught how to do something vs the "3 clicks to make
this item happen using this one product".  

I am not saying that we should switch the WHOLE District to Linux on
all platforms, what I think is that we should have a mixture so that the
kids are OS/Application agnostic.  Wouldn't you agree?
