[olug] ntp offset to central time zone from universal?

I don't know if this will work or not but on my system:

ls -l /etc/localtime
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           30 Feb 17 10:44 /etc/localtime
-> /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Central

Debian Sid machine.  I still haven't gotten ntpdate to work with any
servers yet.
