Mike

Try doing it manually, and see if you can RETR a message,

All you need to do is telnet to port 110 on the pop server at Cox, send your
USER then PASS, then do a LIST, then try and RETR 1 for message number 1.

See what you get.

Subject: [olug] fetchmail

I've decided to move away from Evolution and back to fetchmail/mutt --
Evolution is nice, but is slow when you have a lot of messages and, since
I generally don't erase email (except spam) this is a problem (yeah, I
know, bad habits . . . )

It's been a long time since I've ran fetchmail, and have switched setups
since, gotten Cox, etc. When I try to get my mail via POP3,
fetchmail sees the messages but times out getting the first one.

I'm running Postfix as my MTA and I have it setup to say it's
gideon.om.cox.net (gideon is my machine name) which doesn't resolve to
the outside world, but I have "gideon.om.cox.net" setup as 127.0.0.1 in
my /etc/host file. I have also setup "relayhost" as
"smtp.central.cox.net" as well as a canonical map so all mail from
"mikeh at gideon.om.cox.net" is really from "thehaas at binary.net". My
mailbox dir is ~/.maildir. I can send mail from my local machine
anywhere, and it is sent correctly and says it is from thehaas at binary.net
(which is what I want).

Now, this may be too much info, or not enough of the right info, but I
clearly am at a lost on why fetchmail is timing out on fetching mail.
Any insights would be appreciated.
