[olug] tar / install

I have downloaded apachetoolbox as a tar.gz package. One item that has
always confused the hell out of me is where do I install this package??

So far I have 
gunzip packagename.tar.gz
tar -xvf pachagename.tar
expands it into my home directory called
/home/schmeits/Apachetoolbox-1.5.61


Do I leave it there and run ./install.sh or do I place the
Apachetoolbox-1.5.61 in /usr/local/src ????


Huh? Scratching head very dumb and puzzled look (as if that is the first
time)  .......
