Chances are the problem is with the disk.

You can find out by:

1) Use the disk manufacturer's diagnosic tools
2) Try to find the info on the Compaq web site... better hurry up and 
get it (if you can even find it - the search facilities on Compaq's web 
site SUCK) before HP decides to take away the support pages!
