mysql , just because I dont want to learn a new API  ( php/perl/C ) and I 
think it is fast as all get out for everything I have ever used it for.

Yes, I beleive so, however every rdbms has caveat's

I have literally NEVER touched pgsql

from what I understand, pgsql supported transactions fixed, however they both 
do now.

sql is sql is sql. as long as you stick with ANSI standards, you can port any 
sql db schema
