When I want an unstable package to run on say testing I will change my
src line in /etc/apt/sources.list to unstable and run -

# apt-get update
# apt-get -b source <package_name>

This doesn't always work due to dependencies but I have had it work when
I couldn't install the unstable .deb package. The above command will
download source, and build a .deb package.
