[olug] redhat 7.3

NOt sure if MAndrake has the same configuration as RedHat, but in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts there is a file called ifup. THe DHCPCDARGS
needs to have the -B option for broadcast. Cox requires this for it to
work. Also the -d option is good to have for debug messages to go to your
syslog for troubleshooting, -D if you want to set our domainname to cox.net.

I run Redhat 7.2, dont think 7.3's network setup is all that different.
Also you should have these setting in your ifcfg-eth0 file.
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=dhcp

I heard that Mandrake 8.2 was simple and would fix my internet connection
with no problem so I
tried it. SAME EXACT problem as when I tried RedHat 7.3. when I try the
browser I get host
unknown error.
During boot of the Mandrake system there is an error that ETH0 failed just
like RedHat.
All dection measures I use detect my NIC card (3c900b) and give me a driver
name (3c59x).
This is exactly what RedHat returns. In Mandrake the network state is down.
I have looked for
Howto's and read the ones I have found but I don't find many and what I do
find does not seem
to be the problem.

I use to be connected with an IP address but not since DHCP so I don't know
if it's me or cox.

all help again would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nate
