It's like Slackware in the fact that everything is built from source
(even gcc, if you want it to be).  It takes a while for everything to be
built (ever built mozilla from source??), but (in Gentoo -- it's been
years since I've touched Slack) the build process is automated.  I
usually do an update before I head to bed at night.
