Mandrake and Redhat use the same package manager RPM and can run the same
programs for the most part.

The install procedure and look and feel is different between the two.

The versions of specific applications are different between the two.

They have different lists of including services and applications and
packages between the two.

Mandrake uses Redhat as a base and then goes there own way.

They are somewhat different like Windows 2000 and Windows XP in my opinion
that is.

They run different kernel releases.
They run different ftp daemon programs.
They start up and shut down differently.

Mandrake 8.1 is not Redhat 7.2 with extras.
They are different products like Windows 2000 and XP
but with a common starting point and purpose.
In my opinion from installing and comparing and using them that is.
