xine complete (I haven't tried doing the addons myself to stock xine)
mplayer
ogle (haven't tried it but it was recommended)
omi (The livid player)

I have had varying success with each on different machines. At home
which is a dual PII-350 box with a 64M Geforce2 MX xine appears to be
the best I can get and I still lose sync between audio and video.

At work omi is the best for DVDs while I generally use mplayer for
avis or mpgs.

I have heard ogle is also good on lower end machines but I haven't
tried compiling at home yet so I can't say for sure.

Sorry I don't have URLs for each but a freshmeat/google search should
turn up the homepages for each.
