I'm going to have to agree with everyone else and recommend a GeForce2 (are you catching the hint yet? ;) They are quite easy to set up under Linux and run very well.

Cards to stay away from: basically any 3DFX card, since they are out of business and future support is questionable at best. Besides that, there's not many alternatives to nVidia and they are all pretty decent.
