Chris, you are correct. Emacs contains the famous program Eliza that
mimics a Rogerian psychiatrist. Professor Joseph Weizenbaum of MIT
wrote the original Eliza (Communications of the ACM, v.10, n.8, 1967).
Start emacs and type "M-x doctor", i.e. "Esc-x doctor" or "Alt-x
doctor".

BTW, there is a perl module called Chatbot::Eliza that allows you to
create Eliza bots in perl. See the Perl Journal, issue 9 (v.3, n.1),
Spring 1998, pp 16-18 for a description. Chatbot::Eliza is available at
a CPAN near you. Naturally, people have create similar bots to collect
and disseminate information on IRC. See the Perl Journal, issue 10
(v.3, n.2), Summer 1998, pp 10-14. So, next time you're getting extra
chummy with someone on IRC, you might stop to wonder if it's a person or
a bot. ;-)
