Jason, 

Most bios will allow you to disable the memory check on
system boot, this also makes the pc boot quicker. I see
the option to disable memory check on boot with my pc,
it uses Award bios.

I haven't seen a system that would actually prevent you
from booting past bios because of bad ram due to a bios
limitation in this way.  But the memory check will nag 
you about it, requiring a keystroke to continue.

The exception is I suppose if the ram was complete crap 
and therefore the machine was completely unable to 
cope with any os loading.
