I've checked /etc/resolv.conf to make sure it had my isp & DNS's
there,it
did.Could there be another file that might contain my isp's DNS?
Heres what I did according to directions in the PPP-HOWTO>>I
started minicom, dialed & logged into my isp then hit control A Q to quit

minicom without reseting the modem then I typed in <pppd -d -detach
/dev/ttyS2 &>(my modem is on ttyS2) it then put me at a prompt.I then
checked /var/log/messages and it gave me the following output.

Mar 5 13:11:45 jimbo modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108
Mar 5 13:11:45 jimbo pppd[911]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0
Mar 5 13:11:45 jimbo pppd[911]: Terminating on signal 15.
Mar 5 13:11:45 jimbo pppd[911]: Exit.

I'm assuming that ppp needs the char-major-108 module and
thats why ppp terminated possibly. Does anyone have any idea where it
may
be and where I need to put it?I also notice a message when I stop the
X server that reads /etc/X11R6/bin/xhost bad hostname "localhost".I
looked
in /etc/X11R6/bin and I don't see a file named xhost.Could this be part
of
my problem too?

In reply to Mike McNally this may sound weird but I can get 4 different
prompts
each time I login to my isp.#1 says Welcome to Radiks Internet Access!
#2 says #....{...Minicom 1.8.#3 says PPP session started for
(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).and
#4 is just the pppd garbage characters {%/\}..well you get the idea :)
Ya that confuses me too. When I had my linux going before Radiks never
went by CHAP
or PAP so I don't think thats my problem either.I can't send u a copy of
my chat
script(is that the if-up file by the way?) because I'm in windows and my
explore2fs
program is not letting me access some linux files but when I go back
into linux
I'll copy it to my c drive and post it.

   Thank you again,Gary Martin
