[OLUG] /root is full

I have installed Mandrake 7.0 and during the course of my tweaking it the way I wanted it I tried to rename DOS_hda1  to win with the mv command (for convience sake) and it started but then I got an error stating /dev/hda5 (my root partition) was full so it couldn't proceed.
    I have since edited DOS_hda1 to win in /etc/fstab but is there anyway to get back my partion space on /dev/hda5 ?
