   It should be fine to shut portmap off - it's mainly used for NFS.  You
can shut it off now with an "/etc/rc.d/init.d/portmap stop" and kill it
permanently by removing the symlinks to it in the rcX.d directory for the
runlevel you're using - normally 3 and 5.
