check out the init scripts for your Ethernet device, its probably not
passing this as an argument.
and... `man gzip`

I just reinstalled linux and now I get this error in my log when I boot
up "Determining the IP from the dhcp server..." then it fails. To get my
ethernet card to work I have to specify dhcpd -h <my computer name> on
the command line then it works.Where does the dhcpd look for my computer
name?
Also my windows partion is 640 mb bare bones! Is there anyway to
compress it before or during the dd transfer,(ty Adam Lassek) so it
won't take up so much space in linux?

                Thank you,Gary Martin.
