[OLUG] slow mail

I just got exim, fetchmail and mutt working for the first time last night.
I sent out a few test mails and everything seemed OK.  The turn around from
sending to receiving was fast.  Then sometime late morning to early
afternoon I noticed different behavior.  When I would send a message
sometimes mutt would report I had 'new mail in the outbox' usually it had
said 'mail sent'.  Then I had trouble fetching mail.  Fetchmail would start
and just hang there.  The test emails I was sending myself and a few others
I had sent to other people arrived 1+ hours after being sent, pretty much
all at the same time.  While I was testing this I tried Outlook express in
Windows and the turn around was fast, everything seemed fine.  Anyone have a
clue why my mail is so slow going through the isp in Linux as compared to
Windows?  I have two isp's and both reacted the same.
