[olug-colo] The Legal Mumbo-Jumbo

i vote non-profit.

I feel realistically confident about us existing as a non-profit and still
staying progressive in terms of acquiring new hardware, money, bandwidth and
evolution of the org. One example, I bet I could get PTP Microwave
equipement for free as a nonprofit, I also think I could score a badass
switch or two down the road..likley a brandnew Juniper, also for free,
possibilites exist that dont exist for a for profit, such as support from
multiple major businesses in this area and specific vendors.

it would be advantageous to some of our members for this be a nonprofit in
the sense of tax deductible donations both actual money, and equipment.

Money can come from more places with the nonprofit as opposed to a company
thats doing hosting. Hosting is a tough biz unless one finds a real big
niche. In PowerDNN's case, they have been hosting an opensource application,
and doing it very well for years. Very few companies understand the
application as well as they do, they even wrote their own caching provider
for DNN and it works alot better than the original. If it wasnt for all of
that, then there is no way they could exist since their bandwidth and colo
is higher cost than the big city providers that have something like 30Gb
backhaul to the POPs

I think as it could be a nonprofit, then the customers(members) could then
in turn have the ability to start their own operations under it as a service
provider/hosting company.

I know there is alot of desire to go for profit and I am not opposing it to
be a dickhead :) I sincerily think it really should be non-profit.
I'll donate more time if its going to be a pain in the ass to go this route.
I can do alot of grant writing, labor, footwork, etc
